CJP Seeks Jantar Mantar Protest Date, Gives Police 24 Hours

New Delhi, October 12, 2026: Leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, approached the Parliament Street Police Station on Monday to seek permission and a confirmed date for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. The organisation has said it expects a response from Delhi Police within 24 hours and will announce its next course of action if no date is provided.

According to an Indian Express report published on October 12, CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka said the organisation wanted Delhi Police to provide a definite date for the proposed demonstration.

Why Did CJP Leaders Visit Parliament Street Police Station?

The visit comes amid an ongoing dispute over permission for a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar. CJP had planned a demonstration for October 10, but Delhi Police denied permission for the event.

Police cited the short notice given for the application, alleged non-compliance with directions during an earlier demonstration, and concerns relating to public safety, traffic management and law and order.

The latest move by CJP leaders is aimed at obtaining a clear date for another peaceful demonstration and clarifying the arrangements with the police.

CJP Sets a 24-Hour Deadline for a Response

Ashutosh Ranka has indicated that CJP wants Delhi Police to provide a date within 24 hours. If the police do not communicate a date within that period, the organisation says it will decide on its next move.

The announcement signals that CJP intends to continue pursuing its demand for a protest at Jantar Mantar. However, a new date, venue arrangement or detailed programme should not be treated as confirmed until the organisation or the authorities formally announce it.

What Is the Jantar Mantar Protest About?

The proposed demonstration is linked to the wider dispute over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

CJP and associated protesters have raised concerns about the electoral process. The issue has become part of a broader political debate over voter-list revisions and the accountability of the Election Commission.

Delhi Police, meanwhile, has cited public safety, traffic management and law-and-order considerations in explaining its decision to deny permission for the October 10 demonstration.

What Happens Next?

The immediate focus is on whether Delhi Police will provide a date for the proposed demonstration within the requested 24-hour period.

If a date is communicated, the next steps for organising the protest may become clearer. If no date is provided, CJP has indicated that it will announce its next course of action.

The final decision on the protest's timing and arrangements remains subject to further communication from the organisers and the authorities.

Conclusion

CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have approached the Parliament Street Police Station to seek permission and a confirmed date for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. The organisation has set a 24-hour deadline for a response and indicated that it will decide on its next move if no date is provided. The police response and CJP's subsequent announcement will determine the next stage of the dispute.
