Dhruv Rathee's Protest Statement Raises EC Accountability Questions

Bengaluru, October 9, 2026: YouTuber Dhruv Rathee joined a protest at Bengaluru's Freedom Park on Thursday, October 8, where he questioned the Election Commission's transparency and accountability. The Dhruv Rathee protest statement came during a demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Actor-activist Prakash Raj and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also attended. Protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

What Did Dhruv Rathee Say at the Protest?

Addressing the gathering, Rathee said he had not come to the protest for “regime change.” He also criticised the Election Commission, alleging a lack of transparency and accountability in its functioning.

His remarks focused on electoral transparency and public confidence in the voting process. The comments came amid an ongoing debate over the SIR exercise and complaints about names allegedly being removed from electoral rolls. These were Rathee's stated views and allegations made at the protest, rather than an official finding of wrongdoing.

Where Did Dhruv Rathee Hold the Protest?

The protest took place at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, Karnataka—not at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. It was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party under the banner of a “Janata Nyayalaya,” or people's tribunal. The event aimed to bring forward complaints concerning electoral-roll revisions and alleged voter-name deletions.

The organisers used the gathering to highlight concerns raised by people who said they had encountered problems with their names on voter lists or with the revision process.

What Is SIR and Why Is It Controversial?

SIR stands for Special Intensive Revision, a process for intensive revision of electoral rolls. Groups opposing the exercise have alleged that the removal of names could affect eligible citizens' voting rights.

At the Bengaluru protest, participants called for greater accountability from the Election Commission and renewed their demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. The allegations remain claims made by protesters and should not be presented as established findings without supporting official evidence.

Prakash Raj and CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Join the Demonstration

Actor and activist Prakash Raj also addressed the gathering and called for the SIR exercise to be scrapped. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke reiterated the campaign's criticism of the Election Commission.

Posters and slogans at the venue referred to alleged voter deletions, “vote theft” and demands for accountability. Organisers described the gathering as an effort to draw attention to voter concerns and democratic rights.

Is Dhruv Rathee Also Expected at the Jantar Mantar Protest?

The Bengaluru event was held ahead of a larger protest planned by CJP in Delhi for October 10. Reports said the organisation intended to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. However, Rathee's participation in the Bengaluru event does not, by itself, confirm that he will attend the Delhi protest.

Conclusion

Dhruv Rathee joined the anti-SIR protest at Bengaluru's Freedom Park on October 8. He said he was not there for regime change and questioned the Election Commission's transparency and accountability. Protesters demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, while allegations concerning electoral-roll revisions remained at the centre of the demonstration.
