Share Market Today: Nifty, Sensex and Bank Nifty Close Lower

New Delhi, September 22, 2026: Indian equity markets ended lower on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 closed at 23,329.00, down 85.30 points or 0.36%. The BSE Sensex settled at 74,529.08, falling 329.91 points or 0.44%, while the Bank Nifty closed at 56,215.55, down 255.10 points or 0.45%.

Nifty and Sensex Market Update

The market initially opened on a positive note but selling pressure increased during the session. The Nifty touched an intraday low of 23,285.75, while the Sensex fell to 74,423.71.

IT stocks remained under pressure during the session. Reuters reported that 14 of 16 major sectors ended lower, while the Nifty IT index declined around 0.9%.

Bank Nifty ended lower after a broadly weak session, with 12 of its 14 constituents declining. Bank of Baroda was among the gainers, while Federal Bank recorded the largest decline within the index at around 1.51%.

Ami Organics recorded the sharpest decline among the listed Nifty 500 stocks at around 6.19%, followed by Kaynes Technology at 5.35% and Aegis Vopak Terminal at 5.31%.

Nifty 50 Top Gainers and Losers

Within the Nifty 50, Coal India gained 3.21%, followed by Eternal at 1.82%, InterGlobe Aviation at 1.80%, Titan Company at 1.10% and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories at 1.06%.

On the declining side, Tata Consumer Products fell around 1.65%, Nestle India 1.52%, Bajaj Finserv 1.43%, Bajaj Finance 1.22% and Sun Pharma 1.20%.
