New Delhi, September 28, 2026: The Indian stock market witnessed heavy selling pressure on Monday, with the Nifty 50, Sensex and Nifty Bank all ending sharply lower. The Sensex declined 1,124.02 points or 1.52% to close at 72,771.72, while the Nifty 50 fell 360.25 points or 1.56% to 22,780.25. Nifty Bank dropped 1,108.75 points or 1.99% to finish at 54,471.65.

The Nifty 50 touched an intraday low of 22,762.20, while the broader market also remained under pressure. The Nifty Midcap index declined around 1.6%, highlighting the broad-based nature of Monday's selling.

On the positive side, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories gained 1.67%, Infosys rose 0.30% and HDFC Life added 0.12%.
