Why Did the Indian Stock Market Fall?

Rising crude oil prices and escalating Middle East tensions were major factors behind Tuesday's market weakness. Higher oil prices raised concerns about inflation, India's trade deficit and economic growth. Investors were also cautious ahead of upcoming US economic data and the Federal Reserve's interest-rate outlook.

Defence stocks, however, remained relatively stronger after reports of government approval for defence procurements worth around ₹1.1 lakh crore.
