New Delhi, September 11, 2026: Indian equity markets ended Friday's session on a cautious note. The Nifty 50 closed at 23,398.10, declining 79.70 points or 0.34%, while the Sensex closed at 74,781.76, down 120.84 points or 0.16%.

The Bank Nifty performed relatively better, closing at 56,606.55, up 134.60 points or 0.24%. Its intraday range was 55,699.45–56,645.85.

Within the Nifty 50, Hindalco Industries was the biggest loser, falling 3.21%, followed by JSW Steel (-2.99%), Eicher Motors (-2.17%), Tata Steel (-2.02%) and ONGC (-2.01%).

Why Did the Stock Market Fall?

The market remained sensitive to the sharp movement in crude oil prices, geopolitical developments and higher global bond yields. The broader Indian market also recorded its fifth consecutive weekly decline, keeping investors cautious.

At the same time, some banking stocks showed relative strength. Yes Bank gained 5.29%, while HDFC Bank rose 2.08%, helping Bank Nifty finish higher despite weakness in the broader market.
