Why Did the Stock Market Rise Today?

Buying across heavyweight financial, technology and telecom stocks helped the benchmark indices recover. HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank advanced ahead of their quarterly earnings announcements. IT stocks also remained firm, supported by recent earnings updates from major companies.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries were among the notable large-cap contributors. Reliance shares gained after its subsidiary Jio Platforms announced plans related to a major initial public offering. A softer oil-price environment and a stronger rupee also supported investor sentiment.

However, the broader market did not participate uniformly in the rally. Small-cap and mid-cap indices declined, showing that gains in the headline indices did not translate into strength across every segment.
