Why Did the Stock Market Fall?

The primary pressure came from the rise in crude oil prices amid escalating Middle East tensions. Brent crude moved toward and above the $100-per-barrel level, raising concerns over India's inflation, currency and economic outlook.

The IT sector was particularly weak, with the Nifty IT index falling more than 3%. Investors also remained cautious because of higher global bond yields and uncertainty around US interest rates.

IT Stocks Under Heavy Pressure

Infosys, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, TCS and Wipro witnessed significant selling. IT stocks were among the biggest drags on the Nifty and Sensex during the session.

Metal and Energy Stocks Show Strength

While the overall market remained weak, metal and energy stocks provided some support. Nifty Metal gained around 1.8%, while the energy index also closed higher. Tata Steel, Coal India and Adani-linked stocks were among the notable gainers.

Market Outlook

The September 9 session highlighted continued volatility in Indian equities. With crude oil prices elevated and geopolitical uncertainty continuing, investors may remain cautious in the near term.
